Nein, national-ideologische Motive gegen die EU teile ich nicht, auch wenn ich viel Verständnis dafür habe, wenn Briten ein gesundes Misstrauen gegen kontinentalen Staatskult (und das ist ein gesellschaftliches Problem, kein nur politisches) pflegen, aber der Weblog der beiden EU-Kritiker Helen Szamuely und Richard North (nicht Richard D. North, zu dem später) ist und bleibt schon deshalb so lesenswert, weil er den Finger auf die Wunde von Selbstüberschätzung, Elitendenken und Bürokratismus in Straßburg legt:

From the Euro-centric perspective of Strasbourg, the EU’s credibility might actually seem important, especially in front of the “colleagues” in the toy parliament but, from a look at the press coverage, the rest for the world hardly cares, and the UK media virtually not at all.
Despite Barroso’s madness threatening to bankrupt all the EU member state economies – not that some need any help – the global coverage of the commission president’s “fight-back” against mounting criticism amounts to a mere 32 items on Google News.
Das ist nicht nur herrlich britisch in der Form, es ist auch vollkommen richtig. Als wenn die Öko-Bürokraten in den Nationalstaaten mit ihrer populären Medienfront nun auch noch die völlig unbeachteten Spaßpolitiker im Verwaltungsdirektiven-Haupt-Parlament und dessen Politrentner-”Kommission” brauchen, um noch mehr Regeln und Umweltrichtlinien zu erlassen!
Die Gesellschaften auf diesem Kontinent brauchen für mehr Demokratie weniger Europa, und für mehr Europa deutlich weniger Föderalistenmacht.
